Lauren McGovern
M.S., N.C.C.

I live in the Adirondack Mountains of New York State where I’ve been involved with independent education at North Country School in Lake Placid, NY in a number of roles since 2002. Prior to joining NCS, I worked as a crisis counselor. I started in the admissions and communications departments at North Country and then moved into the school counseling position for thirteen years. I shifted to teaching sixth-grade English Language Arts and academic support programming in Fall 2020.

I consider myself an advocate for young voices, connecting students with books they want to read and helping them advance their skills as writers.

My experience teaching sixth-grade ELA, providing academic support for students in grades 7-9, and coaching English language learners, fits well with my previous career as a mental health professional. I bring an elevated level of awareness and empathy to an online classroom.

Effective tutoring is a mix of providing students with the right balance of inspiration while supporting their current academic needs. I enjoy helping students and families determine a course that is best for them.

I have a Master of Science degree in Counseling, National Counselor Certification, and hold permanent school counseling certification in New York State.
